Fostering Success for Employment is a facilitated connection
between willing employers and youth who have aged out of
foster care.
Nashville Career Advancement Center (NCAC) serves as a
single point of contact for both employers and young
people.
Fostering Success for Employment creates a win-win situation
for this dual customer model. Employers receive dedicated,
prepared, and well-trained employees while at the same
time providing a hand up to young people who have aged out.
In addition, youth access opportunities for employment that
provides a living wage, healthcare benefits, and career
growth possibilities. |

In order to best serve employers and youth, NCAC has created three
tools. These vital components in the Fostering Success for Employment
initiative will help bridge gaps for youth aging out of foster
care. They are as follows:
-
The Wants Assessment is a survey of foster youth that identifies
employment interest, employment history, skill/education level,
work ethic values, and potential employment barriers. This
assessment will create a profile for youth that will aid in
career counseling/mentoring.
-
The Needs Assessment surveys top area employers to outline
knowledge, skills and aptitudes for entry-level hires. This
information allows NCAC to train youth in order to meet the
employer’s needs.

A Steering Committee of community leaders, many from NCAC’s own
Middle
Tennessee Workforce Investment Board, helps aid in
the promotion and implementation of this initiative.
Companies partner with Fostering Success to provide jobs that pay at
least $9-$12 per hour, offer full benefits, some on-the-job-training
and opportunities for promotions and advancement. The companies also
have mentorship programs for former foster youth. According to NCAC,
workers placed through NCAC are more likely to stay on the job than
the average employee at these companies.
